Becoming a Believer

You CAN KNOW that you are saved, you don’t have to hope or guess. It is too important to wait until you
die to find out whether you will be in heaven or in hell.
The Bible teaches that all are sinners – Romans 3:23,For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”The payment that we must make because of sin is death. Every person who sins must die. We read in Romans 6:23,“For the wages (payment) of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
You may have heard that a good person goes to heaven and a bad person goes to hell, but the Bible teaches that you have to be perfect to go to heaven. None of us are perfect. God is sinless, and He can’t allow one sin to enter heaven because He is holy. Revelation 21:27 states that there will “in no wise enter into it (heaven) anything that defiles, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie.”  We may not have worked abomination, but all of us have told a lie. We can’t enter heaven with any sin. It is impossible to work your way to heaven because you can’t pay for the sin that you have already committed by your good works. Good works will never make your perfect – Ephesians 2:8,9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”

Following Christ

Jesus Christ died on the cross to give us His righteousness. Second Corinthians 5:21 says, “For He (God) hath made Him (Christ) to be sin for us, who knew no sin, that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.” If you have the righteousness of God, how righteous are you? That righteousness does not come by our own works, but by the fact that Jesus took all of our sins and paid for them when He died on the cross.

That does not mean that everyone is saved. It means that everyone can be saved if they receive Jesus Christ as their Savior. John 3:16 says that “God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth (puts their trust) in him should not perish but have everlasting life.” If you would like help in finding God, please give us a call at (507) 289-6750.

Membership and Baptism

Membership Foundations Class

Pastor LaPine teaches this class for anyone who is interested in learning more about the church. The class begins with a simple principle found in Amos 3:3, “Can two walk together except they be agreed?”

We desire to have a church where people walk together, but no one is in agreement on every point. We desire to be in agreement on the “fundamentals” of the faith, the most basic tenets to what makes us followers of Jesus Christ.

This class meets several times each year and is a revolving class. You can come in on any lesson and continue until you have completed each of the eight lessons.

Growing in Christ

Salvation is a free gift, but that is just the beginning. Once you come to know Jesus Christ as your Savior, you have a desire to get to know Him as your friend and as your Lord.

The church is His body on this earth. He desires for us to fellowship together for strength, encouragement, and teaching. To grow in your Christian life, you need to spend time daily in the Word of God, and spend time with God in prayer.

The Lord has also given you the responsibility to love one another and to share His good news of salvation with people who do not know what it means to be saved.
In the Bible, baptism is the first step of obedience once you know Jesus Christ as your Savior. Baptism does not save a you. It is a picture of the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. It also pictures the complete cleansing that takes place once a person comes to know Christ by immersion under the water and then the rising from the water.
Babies are never baptized in the Bible. The Ethiopian eunuch asked Philip, “What do I have to do to be baptized?” Philip answered, “If you believe with all your heart.” Babies can’t believe with their heart.
When you receive Jesus as Savior, you need to be baptized to show that you have accepted the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ for your sins. Click here for more information. Please contact us if you would like to visit with a Pastor.
